How Does Juvéderm® Work?
Juvéderm®, like all HA Fillers, is comprised of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the skin that naturally decreases as we age. Hyaluronic acid acts as a moisture magnet, binding to water molecules and retaining them within the skin. The result is a noticeable improvement in skin firmness and hydration.
Juvederm happens to be the most hydrophilic – or water absorbing – of all HA fillers available in the US today, meaning it’s going to give the biggest plumping effect per volume compared to other HA fillers.
At its lower price point, Juvederm is a great filler to start with, especially if you’re looking to enhance your lips (since swelling and plumping there is generally a preferred result). However, Juvederm doesn’t last as long as some newer HA filler formulations, and it doesn’t work as well for certain areas, like the undereyes, where swelling would be unfavorable. Aftercare
Following Juvéderm® filler injections, you will experience temporary numbness in the treated area, because the product is pre-mixed with lidocaine to make the injection procedure comfortable. Avoid applying makeup directly over injection sites for 24 hours to prevent infection, though makeup application near the injection site is okay if done with care. Expect swelling, particularly in the initial 24-48 hours, which should gradually subside, mostly subsiding within the first couple of days, and fully resolving within two weeks. Be sure to follow your provider’s guidance after treatment and don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or concerns.
